From February 13 to July 20, 2025, Museo ICO in Madrid presents an exceptional opportunity to experience Picasso’s Vollard Suite in its entirety.
This remarkable exhibition brings together one of the most celebrated series in modern printmaking with a selection of 54 etchings and 8 paintings by leading Spanish contemporary artists, creating a rich dialogue between artistic traditions and innovation.
Picasso’s Legacy in Printmaking
Produced between 1930 and 1937, the Vollard Suite consists of 100 etchings that explore themes central to Picasso’s artistic vision:
🔹 The Sculptor’s Studio, reflecting his fascination with form and creation
🔹 The Battle of Love, exploring human desire and tension
🔹 The Minotaur, a symbolic figure throughout his work
🔹 Portraits of Ambroise Vollard, the legendary dealer behind the series
Originally exchanged for a collection of paintings owned by Ambroise Vollard, this series is widely regarded as a defining moment in modern printmaking, showcasing Picasso’s mastery of techniques such as aquatint, drypoint, and burin engraving.

A Tribute to Spanish Contemporary Art
Beyond Picasso, the exhibition offers a compelling selection of works by Spanish contemporary artists, many of whom shaped the artistic trends of the late 20th century. The lineup includes renowned figures such as Juan Genovés, Eduardo Arroyo, Manolo Valdés, and Miguel Ángel Campano, among others.
The exhibition also features:
🎨 Nine Nocturnal Animals, by Miguel Ángel Campano, winner of the National Prize for Plastic Arts
🎨 Dadá Collection, by Fernando Bellver, awarded the National Graphic Art Prize
By presenting these pieces alongside the Vollard Suite, the exhibition highlights the evolution of etching as a medium and its lasting impact on Spanish visual culture.
