Azkuna Zentroa

Azkuna Zentroa opens its 2025 exhibition season with Escala 1:1, a project by artist Ixone Sádaba that explores the material, symbolic, and political legacy of the Lemoiz nuclear power plant.

A reflection on history and memory

The exhibition, curated by Carles Guerra, reconstructs life-size images of the Lemoiz power plant inside Azkuna Zentroa through large-scale projections. The project revisits the 1970s observation deck, originally designed for construction site visits, now repurposed as a vantage point for reflecting on the past, present, and future of the plant.

Artistic research and historical legacy

Ixone Sádaba’s work stems from a research process that began in 2020, funded by a Leonardo Foundation grant. The Lemoiz nuclear power plant, abandoned for over 40 years, remains a symbol of political and environmental debate. The exhibition highlights its architectural remains and the multiple layers of history embedded in the site.

Activities and guided tours

Escala 1:1 includes a public program featuring discussions and guided tours. Visitors can join introductory visits every Thursday and participate in guided tours led by the artist on February 19 and March 26. Additionally, educational workshops will be conducted in collaboration with artist José Ramón Ais, focusing on plant species inhabiting the abandoned site.
