OBLIQUO Gallery launches an international year-round open call for vertical-format video art

Submission deadline: December 31, 2025

OBLIQUO Gallery announces an ongoing international open call for video art and digital projects conceived specifically for the vertical screen format (9:16). The initiative aims to promote innovative audiovisual works created for the contemporary landscape of mobile viewing, digital storytelling, and spatial installation.

Objective of the call

The open call encourages artists to experiment with the creative possibilities of the vertical frame. Selected works will explore aesthetic, conceptual, and narrative approaches that expand the potential of 9:16 video as an artistic medium.

Who can apply

The call is open to artists of any nationality, individually or collectively, who are over 18 years old. Each applicant or collective may submit one project.

Project requirements

  • Works must be created for vertical format (9:16).
  • Minimum quality: Full HD (1080×1920); 4K preferred.
  • Accepted techniques: video art, animation, experimental video, digital collage, generative or interactive pieces, and other audiovisual formats.
  • Works in any language are accepted. Projects with dialogue or text must include Spanish subtitles or be provided in English for later translation.

Required documentation

Applicants must submit:

  • Completed application form.
  • Video link (Vimeo, YouTube, Drive; password protected if needed).
  • Project description (maximum 300 words).
  • A still image from the video (minimum resolution 1080×1920px).

Selection process

A jury of professionals in contemporary art and audiovisual media will evaluate proposals based on:

  • Innovation and originality in the use of the vertical format
  • Technical and aesthetic quality
  • Conceptual coherence
  • Visual and narrative impact

Key dates

This open call accepts proposals year-round. Selected projects will be exhibited during a one-month show at OBLIQUO’s exhibition space.

General conditions

Artists retain full copyright. OBLIQUO may use excerpts or stills from selected works exclusively for promotional purposes related to the call and exhibition. The organisation may provide an artist fee to selected participants, subject to available funding. By applying, artists accept all terms of the call.
