DESCRIPTION:Amateur photographers of all ages can submit up to three insect photographs for cash prizes of up to £750\nApplication deadline: October 31\, 2026\, at 11:59 p.m. UK time. \nThe Royal Entomological Society has opened the Insect Week Photography Competition 2026\, inviting amateur photographers of all ages and nationalities to submit images celebrating the diversity\, behaviour and natural environments of insects. \nThe international competition is free to enter and accepts photographs taken anywhere in the world. Participants can submit up to three images\, with separate age categories for photographers aged 18 and over and those under 18. \nWho can enter the insect photography competition?\nThe competition is open exclusively to amateur photographers. Applicants must confirm that photography is not their main profession and that they do not receive income from photography beyond competition prizes and social media royalties. \nYoung photographers aged 17 or under may participate with permission from a parent or guardian. Participants of all ages may submit photographs taken with either a dedicated camera or a smart device\, including a mobile phone or tablet. \nEach entrant may submit a maximum of three photographs. The applicant must be the original photographer and hold the copyright to every image entered. \nPhotography themes for 2026\nAdult participants can enter photographs addressing three principal themes: \n\nInsect behaviour\nInsect portraits\nInsects in their environment\n\nSubmitted photographs must feature a real insect or group of insects in a naturally occurring situation. Entries may depict any stage of an insect’s life cycle\, including eggs\, larvae\, pupae\, nymphs and adults. \nPhotographs focusing primarily on spiders\, snails\, woodlice or other non-insect invertebrates are not eligible. Images may include these animals only when the main subject of the composition is an insect. \nCash prizes and publication opportunities\nThe first-place winner in the 18 and over category will receive £750\, while the second-place winner will receive £500. \nIn the under-18 category\, the first prize is £450 and the second prize is £250. Additional shortlisted entries may receive specially commended\, highly commended or commended distinctions from the Royal Entomological Society. \nWinning and commended photographs will be presented in an online gallery on the Insect Week website. The four winning images will also be published in Antenna\, the bulletin of the Royal Entomological Society\, during 2027. \nThe results are expected to be announced before Insect Week 2027. \nImage requirements and ethical guidelines\nPhotographs must be uploaded as JPG\, JPEG or PNG files and must not exceed 10 MB. Images cannot contain watermarks\, borders\, signatures or added text. \nBlack-and-white photography is accepted. Digital adjustments that preserve the integrity of the original photograph are permitted\, but entrants cannot add or remove animals\, plants\, people\, objects or parts of the landscape. \nAI-generated and significantly AI-enhanced images are not eligible. Every entry must depict a real-world insect. \nPhotographers must also ensure that their presence and working methods do not harm or significantly disturb the insects or their habitats. Entries created through irresponsible or unethical practices may be rejected. \nSubmitted images must not have previously won a prize\, commendation or award in another photography competition. SUMMARY:Vincent van Gogh Photo Award 2027 opens international photography competition
DESCRIPTION:Photographers worldwide can submit images responding to the theme “Spirit of Light” until March 30\, 2027\nApplication deadline: March 30\, 2027. \nThe Vincent van Gogh Photo Award has opened submissions for its 2027 international photography competition\, inviting amateur and professional photographers from around the world to present work inspired by the theme Spirit of Light. \nOrganized in Nuenen\, the Dutch village where Vincent van Gogh lived and worked between 1883 and 1885\, the biennial award encourages participants to approach photography with the artist’s experimental spirit. Entrants are invited to use the camera as a creative tool for exploring light\, emotion and visual storytelling. \nA photography award inspired by Vincent van Gogh\nThe theme for the 2027 edition is Spirit of Light — through the eyes of Vincent van Gogh. Photographers may interpret the concept freely\, developing images that examine the expressive\, symbolic or atmospheric possibilities of light. \nThe competition is open internationally\, and both amateur and professional photographers may participate. A separate Student Award is available exclusively to applicants who are currently students. \nParticipants can submit a maximum of three photographs in each entry and may enter the competition more than once. Every photograph is evaluated separately\, allowing photographers to present multiple interpretations of the theme. \nSubmission fees and early bird discount\nFor the main Vincent van Gogh Photo Award\, the entry fee is €18 for one photograph\, €30 for two photographs and €42 for three photographs. \nStudent Award fees are €10 for one photograph\, €15 for two photographs and €20 for three photographs. A 20% early bird discount is available until September 30\, 2026. \nTechnical requirements and image editing\nOnly digital photographs are accepted. Images must be submitted as JPG files in RGB format\, with at least 3\,000 pixels on the longest side\, a resolution of 300 dpi and a minimum file size of 2 MB. Files should preferably not exceed 5 MB and must not contain frames\, logos or watermarks. \nBasic image enhancement\, including sharpening\, HDR processing\, colour correction and adjustments to contrast or saturation\, is permitted. Significant manipulation\, composite images and alterations that fundamentally change the original content are not allowed. Winners may be asked to provide the original RAW file for verification. \nPrizes and outdoor exhibition in the Netherlands\nThe winner of the main award will receive €1\,000\, while second and third place will receive €500 and €250 respectively. In the Student Award\, the first prize is €500\, followed by prizes of €250 and €100. \nThe nominated photographs will be presented in an outdoor exhibition in the public park at the centre of Nuenen from September 3 to September 24\, 2027. SUMMARY:Larnaca Biennale 2027 launches international open call for artists
DESCRIPTION:Artists\, designers\, photographers and performers from around the world can submit proposals until March 31\, 2027\nApplication deadline: March 31\, 2027. \nLarnaca Biennale has launched its international open call for artists for its 2027 edition\, inviting creative practitioners from around the world to submit proposals for one of Cyprus’s leading contemporary art events. \nThe fifth edition of the biennale will take place in Larnaca\, Cyprus\, from October 13 to November 26\, 2027. The main exhibition will be accompanied by performances\, public interventions\, concerts\, lectures\, workshops and other cultural activities across the city and the wider Larnaca district. \nMetatopies: Geographies in Motion\nThe 2027 edition will be developed around the theme Metatopies: Geographies in Motion\, curated by art historian Niki Papaspyrou and visual artist and art historian Marios Fournaris. \nThe curatorial framework examines place as a constantly changing network of relationships\, movements and traces rather than as a fixed point on a map. Participating artists are invited to reflect on migration\, borders\, mobility and immobility\, memory\, trauma\, ecological transformation\, belonging and the changing ways in which people inhabit the world. \nThe exhibition proposes a form of critical remapping in which geographical territories intersect with the internal landscapes of the body\, identity and desire. \nWho can apply?\nThe call is open to professional and amateur artists\, art students\, designers and photographers aged 18 or over. Individual artists and groups of up to five members may apply. Applicants can propose works in any material\, technique\, style or medium\, and there are no general restrictions on artwork dimensions. \nSubmissions may include painting\, sculpture\, photography\, installation\, video\, performance and other contemporary artistic practices. Installation proposals can be presented through photographs\, sketches or professional 3D renderings. Videos selected for presentation must not exceed five minutes. \nApplicants must submit up to three high-quality images of the proposed work and may include a statement of up to 200 words. Applications must be completed in English. \nApplication fees and selection process\nThe application fee is €50 for individual artists\, €75 for groups of two and €100 for groups of three to five artists. Each fee covers one proposal and is non-refundable. \nSelected applicants will be notified by email by May 15\, 2027. The biennale will present more than 13 awards\, including a Grand Prix\, three Awards of Excellence\, six Awards of Distinction and prizes supported by the World Association of Visual Arts. \nShipping and return costs are generally the responsibility of selected artists.
