Xochi Art Gallery invites artists worldwide to participate in its 2025 Art Competition — an opportunity to exhibit in Portugal’s newest contemporary art venue and sculpture park, with solo exhibitions awarded to top finalists.

The 2025 Art Competition organized by Xochi Art Gallery and Sculpture Park offers artists a platform to showcase their work in a unique environment that bridges indoor and outdoor art spaces. Open to painters, sculptors, photographers and mixed-media artists, the call welcomes submissions for solo exhibitions, group shows and online expos, marking the gallery’s opening year in April 2025.

About the gallery

Located in the Serra da Estrela Natural Park in the village of Vale de Amoreira, Central Portugal, Xochi Art Gallery combines 100m² of indoor exhibition space with 9.2 hectares of scenic gardens, meadows, vineyards, river frontage and mountain woodlands. Set within one of Portugal’s most visited natural destinations — home to the Star Mountain and Estrela UNESCO Global Geopark — the venue merges art and nature in an immersive cultural experience.

Competition and prizes

All works submitted during 2025 will automatically enter the annual competition, offering artists the chance to earn solo exhibitions in 2026. Awards include:

  • 1st Prize: Solo Exhibition at Xochi Art Gallery
  • 2nd Prize: Solo Exhibition in Gallery One
  • 3rd Prize: Solo Exhibition in Gallery Two
  • Selected Works: Group Exhibition at Xochi Art Gallery

Winning artists will gain global exposure and be featured across the gallery’s official channels and publications.

Eligibility and participation

The open call is international and welcomes both emerging and established artists. All submitted works must be for sale. Artists can apply for solo or group exhibitions across various formats, including painting, sculpture, photography and mixed media.

Submission guidelines

  • Submit 3 photos of your works via the official submission page at xochi.art.
  • Non-refundable administration fee: €30 per submission.
  • Payments accepted via Visa, Mastercard, PayPal and other major providers.
  • Submit early to be considered for the 2025 programme of events.
  • Deadline: December 31, 2025.

Terms and conditions

  • Selected artists will sign an exhibition contract with the gallery.
  • The gallery covers exhibition mounting, opening events and marketing.
  • A 40% commission (excl. VAT) applies on artwork sales.
  • The artist is responsible for transporting works to and from the venue.
  • Outdoor sculptures will be installed collaboratively and may remain on display for up to one year or longer by agreement.
  • The gallery may use submitted images for marketing and publicity.
  • Selected artists will be notified by email; the jury’s decision is final.
